A manure pond is a method that is mostly used to handle hog manure, especially in places that there are no experiences of a lot of temperatures that are freezing in wintertime.
In the lagoon that is open, a natural bacterium assists the manure to decompose and the portion of the manure that is in liquid form is sprayed periodically on the fields as fertilizer. It is known that animal manure is the types that are best of organic materials that a person can use to feed the soil in a garden. A great feature of the fertilizer is that it can be added in any type of soil. However, a person needs to always remember that they should not put manure that is fresh around young shooting because it will burn them.
However, the lagoons that have been created by Smithfield Farms have brought about an opposition that is increasing. It has been to the extent that the state blocked the construction of new farms that will make use of the lagoons. Additionally, the people who are residing near the farms have been filing a lawsuit that the farms afflict them with odors that are unpleasant and flies. Additionally, in China during a hurricane, some manure lagoons overflowed and had adverse effects on the people.
However, the company has come up with ways of dealing with such issues. It recently announced that it will make payments to the framers to install covers made of plastic over the lagoons. The goal of the company is to cover lagoons that handle waste from all the finishing hogs of the firm. The covers will help in keeping water out and capturing odors. Additionally, the company will also benefit in capturing methane which is a gas that is utilized in greenhouses. The Smithfield China company will recover the gas and later process it into a gas that is natural and will be used for commercial purposes in power and heating. Thus, the company will help in the replacements of the burning of other fuels.
